UL Lafayette nursing programs for Nevada residents
A Nevada nurse practitioner can apply to UL Lafayette's post-MSN Doctor of Nursing Practice, and its residency may run in Nevada instead of Louisiana. The FNP, PMHNP and PMHNP certificate take no Nevada residents and keep their clinical hours inside Louisiana. Because Nevada stands apart from the multistate license system, sort out licensing first.

Your Nevada license matters more than any compact card
Louisiana and all three of its neighbors share the Nurse Licensure Compact. Nevada does not, and no bill to change that is pending, so a multistate card from Baton Rouge or anywhere else stops at the Nevada line. The Nevada Board has also ruled, in a practice decision, that patient care delivered to someone located in Nevada calls for a Nevada license, and it names hands-on nursing education in that ruling.
AANP counts Nevada among its full practice states, with a prescribing condition: Schedule II orders wait for two years or 2,000 hours of clinical work unless a physician has approved a protocol. Nevada has not adopted the APRN Compact, and we found no state preceptor tax credit.
An older Board decision, from 2005, spells out precepting. Faculty direct each student's clinical time and stay reachable by phone, the preceptor works on site with a two-student maximum, and the school hands each preceptor an orientation and written objectives.
NAC 632.703 and a home-state residency
Nevada's code speaks to any nursing program running a piece of its work in the state. That program files a Board report showing accreditation or approval and compliance with Nevada's nursing law, then keeps annual school reports coming. Online and other nontraditional programs add a step: Board approval ahead of any clinical instruction in Nevada, with Nevada-licensed faculty doing the teaching there.
Nothing in the rule separates entry-level programs from graduate ones, so its reach to a post-MSN residency is an open question. Put it to UL Lafayette's DNP Coordinator and the Nevada Board early, before hours are scheduled.
The UL Lafayette DNP from Las Vegas, Reno or Carson City
UL Lafayette's doctorate runs 39 credits online through fall and spring, admits one Fall cohort, and closes applications on May 1. Residency courses NURS 821, NURS 822 and NURS 823 hold its 420 hours, set in your specialty area of practice, and UL Lafayette accepts them in Louisiana or your home state. Greater Las Vegas holds most of Nevada's people, Reno trails well behind, and the Carson City area is smaller still. UMC, Southern Nevada's academic medical center, sits beside Renown in Reno, HCA's Sunrise system, The Valley Health System and Dignity Health's hospitals in Henderson and Las Vegas. Questions UL Lafayette students ask
My RN license is a multistate one from Arizona. Is that enough in Nevada?
It is not. Nevada is outside the compact, so Arizona's multistate privilege, or any other state's, ends at the border. The Nevada Board treats care for a patient located in Nevada, clinical education included, as work that needs a Nevada license. Check your status with the Board well before residency hours.
Can I take UL Lafayette's online FNP while living in Las Vegas?
Not from a Nevada address. For Nevada, UL Lafayette has made no call on whether the FNP, PMHNP or PMHNP certificate meets educational requirements, and it is not enrolling students from states in that group. All three also keep clinical hours in Louisiana under a Louisiana RN license. Moving? Confirm eligibility with UL Lafayette's online programs office.
Who files the Nevada Board report for an outside program?
The school, under NAC 632.703, not the student. It shows accreditation or approval, compliance with Nevada nursing law and yearly school reports. Ask the DNP Coordinator whether a residency counts and how UL Lafayette handles it; we keep your mentor's and site's details ready for either answer.
Would my Nevada preceptor be limited in how many students they take?
Yes: the 2005 Board decision allows two students per preceptor at one time, on site. Louisiana applies the same two-student ceiling to graduate APRN students in UL Lafayette's own programs, so a mentor already teaching one other learner can still take you.
How often does a Nevada DNP student fly to Lafayette?
Two trips. The DNP Orientation Intensive happens on campus as the program opens, and the formal Synthesis Project presentation closes it. Coursework in between is online, and residency can stay in Nevada once UL Lafayette approves the site and Nevada's rules are met.
