Wyoming residents, UL Lafayette and an unsettled DNP listing
For a Wyoming nurse practitioner, everything turns on one inconsistency: UL Lafayette's DNP program list skips Wyoming, while Wyoming's own entry lower on that page shows the DNP. Get that resolved first. Neither the FNP nor the PMHNP track, nor the PMHNP certificate, takes Wyoming residents under either reading.

Wyoming's entry, and the listing clash behind it
The clash sits on UL Lafayette's state authorization page. Wyoming shares the DNP gap with Kansas, Maryland, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Washington, and the Maryland and Oklahoma pages walk through the same puzzle from those states.

WSBN's notice rule for outside programs
The Wyoming State Board of Nursing (WSBN) keeps its education rules in Chapter 6, and they let an outside program in on one of two footings: registration with Wyoming's education department, or NC-SARA approval. UL Lafayette's authorization page calls the university an NC-SARA member; whether that satisfies Wyoming for a UL Lafayette residency is something research did not check.
- Post-licensure programs, and WSBN names the DNP, MSN, APRN and RN-to-BSN kinds here, skip board approval but owe WSBN a written notice each time one of their students is headed to a Wyoming clinical placement. WSBN posts a model letter for that purpose.
- Before clinicals begin, the program and the Wyoming facility must have signed a contract, and a copy stays on hand for WSBN.
- Programs preparing new LPNs and RNs must ask permission instead, sending a program description, their reasons, proof of approval at home, and license records for the faculty and preceptors involved, all of whom need active Wyoming or multistate licenses.
Ask the DNP Coordinator which side sends that notice and signs that contract for a UL Lafayette residency; WSBN can settle anything still unclear.
A compact state that also passed the APRN Compact
Wyoming nurses have carried multistate RN privileges since January 2018, and the legislature went further by writing the APRN Compact into state law. Only Utah, the two Dakotas and Delaware have joined Wyoming so far, and the compact does nothing until a seventh state enacts it. Cheyenne and Casper are the state's two metropolitan areas, with Gillette a micropolitan one. The hospital names a Wyoming nurse knows (Casper's Banner Wyoming Medical Center, whose parent Banner Health is based in Arizona; Campbell County Health in Gillette; Ivinson Memorial in Laramie, affiliated with UCHealth; Sheridan Memorial; Cheyenne Regional) appear here only to sketch the state, never as UL Lafayette sites. Research found no Wyoming preceptor incentive.

Is UL Lafayette's DNP open to Wyoming nurse practitioners?
The university's own page points both ways. Its DNP program list leaves Wyoming off, while Wyoming's individual entry lists the DNP. Treat admission as unconfirmed until UL Lafayette's online programs office answers you in writing, and ask well before the May 1 deadline for the Fall cohort.
Does the Wyoming State Board of Nursing need to approve my residency?
Not as an approval. WSBN exempts post-licensure programs, DNP programs among them, from board approval, but the program must notify the board in writing before a Wyoming clinical learning experience and have a signed facility contract first. Registration with the state education department or NC-SARA approval is the underlying condition.
Will the APRN Compact let me work in Louisiana on my Wyoming license?
Not today. The compact needs seven member states before it runs, it has five, and Louisiana is not among the five. Louisiana clinical time runs under Louisiana's own licensing rules, which the license guide covers for UL Lafayette students. RN multistate privileges are a separate matter, since Wyoming and Louisiana both belong to the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Can a Wyoming RN take UL Lafayette's online PMHNP from home?
No. None of the three NP programs (FNP, PMHNP, PMHNP certificate) accepts Wyoming residents, and all three keep their rotations inside Louisiana and ask for Louisiana RN licensure.
