Can a New Hampshire nurse study at UL Lafayette?
Yes, through one door. The post-MSN Doctor of Nursing Practice takes New Hampshire residents, and its residency hours may stay in your home state. UL Lafayette is not enrolling Granite State students in the FNP, PMHNP or PMHNP certificate, which keep every clinical hour in Louisiana.

Practice and licensing in the Granite State
Compact licensing began in New Hampshire in January 2018 and in Louisiana the next year, so a multistate RN license from either state is honored in the other. UL Lafayette words its own license rule in more than one way, and the RN license page lines the versions up. On AANP's map, New Hampshire NPs enjoy full practice. The APRN Compact has not been enacted there.
Among systems, Dartmouth Health, which includes Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, heads the list. SolutionHealth was formed by Elliot and by Southern New Hampshire Health, and its boards floated dissolving it in July 2025; HCA's Catholic Medical Center and the Concord Hospital system round out the field. The state's southern tier counts toward greater Boston, and Manchester-Nashua and the Concord area come next. These are landmarks, not sites arranged for UL Lafayette students, and research turned up no New Hampshire preceptor incentive.
Nur 602.15 and what it could mean for a doctoral residency
Rule Nur 602.15(j) targets approved pre-licensure programs from other states that contract with New Hampshire facilities. Such a program tells the Board it intends to place students, then warns six weeks ahead of each rotation. The paperwork has three layers: Form A, a petition renewed every year; Part B, one Student Clinical Placement form for each rotation; and one signed Clinical Preceptor Agreement for each preceptor. Visiting faculty who supervise in person need a New Hampshire license and an appointment form.
Two wrinkles matter for a DNP. The licensing office describes RN-BSN, RN-MSN and similar post-licensure programs as beyond Board regulation. Also, one legal database lists the rule as expiring January 23, 2026, yet the office was still citing it in January, and no one has confirmed a readoption. Ask the DNP Coordinator and the Board before assuming no filing applies.
Earning the DNP from Manchester, Concord or Nashua
The doctorate is 39 credits, taught online each fall and spring, with a single cohort starting every Fall after a May 1 deadline. Three residency courses carry 420 clock hours in your specialty (120, 180 and 120), done in Louisiana or your home state, and those hours sit inside the 1,000 post-baccalaureate practice hours the program requires. Expect an unencumbered U.S. RN license and, as a post-MSN applicant, a U.S. APRN nurse practitioner license, plus background checks, drug and alcohol screens and health requirements before residency. You come to Lafayette twice: for the Orientation Intensive at the start and the Synthesis Project presentation at the end.

Is UL Lafayette's PMHNP certificate open to New Hampshire NPs?
Not to New Hampshire residents. The certificate shares the MSN tracks' status: UL Lafayette has reached no determination for New Hampshire and is not admitting students from it. Its 510 clinical hours take place in Louisiana, and it asks for both a Louisiana RN license and a Louisiana APRN license. A move to Louisiana changes the answer; confirm with UL Lafayette's online programs office.
Does the six-week notice apply to my DNP residency?
Possibly not, but nobody should assume. The notice rule is written for pre-licensure programs, the Board treats RN-BSN and RN-MSN programs as outside its reach, and the rule's own status after January 2026 is unsettled. Settle it with the DNP Coordinator and the New Hampshire Board before you fix dates.
Who mentors a UL Lafayette DNP residency in New Hampshire?
A mentor from the agency where your project happens. UL Lafayette's committee includes "an approved mentor from the agency in which the student expects to implement the project," and NURS 822 runs with that residency mentor and your faculty advisor. UL Lafayette approves the mentor; we find candidates in your specialty near home.
What if my New Hampshire mentor steps away mid-residency?
Tell your faculty advisor at once. The catalog has students who need extra residency hours register for NURS 809, NURS 810, NURS 811 or NURS 812, with DNP Coordinator permission. We keep a second site and mentor in view from day one, so a replacement is ready for faculty review quickly.
