Indiana, UL Lafayette and the post-MSN doctorate
Indiana is on the accepted list for UL Lafayette's post-MSN DNP, so an Indiana nurse practitioner can apply and keep residency hours at home, inside the specialty they practice. The MSN FNP, MSN PMHNP and PMHNP certificate are not accepting Indiana residents, because each one keeps its clinical rotations in Louisiana.

What the authorization page says about Indiana
The university keeps a separate state list for every online program on its state authorization page. Indiana's entries, as read in September 2026:

Indiana's board stops at first licensure
Indiana's nursing board operates through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency, and on program oversight it draws a tidy line. Its accreditation work is limited to Indiana programs whose students have not yet been licensed and are heading for RN or LPN status. Graduate programs, and RN-BSN programs too, get no review from it, by the board's own statement. 848 IAC 1-2-4 draws the same boundary: its list of eligible programs holds pre-licensure RN and PN education and nothing else.
Research found no Indiana board step for a graduate program based outside Indiana that places students inside it, and no one checked, in research, for UL Lafayette's name on an Indiana list. That suggests a light state footprint for a DNP residency, but the DNP Coordinator and the board are the ones to confirm it for your plan.
Indiana's collaborative agreements and compact membership
Indiana entered the Nurse Licensure Compact in July 2020, so an Indiana multistate RN license also works in Louisiana and other member states. Indiana has not adopted the APRN Compact. AANP places Indiana in its reduced practice tier. The reason: an NP there must keep a regulated collaborative agreement, signed with a physician, over some part of practice. None of that changes your DNP eligibility; it shapes the practice settings a residency project might study.
Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and the border metros
Metro Indianapolis, formally Indianapolis-Carmel-Greenwood, holds about 2.2 million people. The Indiana side of the Chicago metro counts about 729,000 residents, Fort Wayne's metro is near 466,000, and roughly 281,000 live in the Indiana portion of the Louisville metro. Indiana University Health and Parkview Health are two of the larger systems; Franciscan Health is another, as are Community Health Network and Ascension St. Vincent. None of them is offered here as a UL Lafayette site. No Indiana preceptor incentive turned up in research.
The residency, the campus trips and the calendar
Thirty-nine credits make up UL Lafayette's post-MSN DNP. A new cohort forms each Fall from applications received by May 1, and courses are delivered online. Residency comes in three parts, NURS 821 at 120 hours, NURS 822 at 180 and NURS 823 at 120, each set inside your specialty area of practice, and UL Lafayette permits them at home or in Louisiana.
UL Lafayette seats an approved mentor, drawn from the agency where your project takes place, on the Synthesis Project committee, so the Indiana site you pick should have someone ready for that role. Is the UL Lafayette FNP available to Indiana residents?
Not currently. All three NP tracks list Indiana as a state they are not taking, because UL Lafayette has made no determination on Indiana's educational requirements. They also keep every clinical hour inside Louisiana, on a Louisiana license; the Louisiana-only clinical rule explains why.
Does the Indiana board need to approve UL Lafayette for a residency?
Indiana's board says it does not review graduate nursing programs, and research found nothing requiring a graduate program from another state to clear Indiana placements first. Research did not look for UL Lafayette on any Indiana list. Confirm with the DNP Coordinator and the Indiana board before you lock in a site.
Will my Indiana RN license satisfy UL Lafayette's DNP?
UL Lafayette's catalog asks DNP applicants for an unencumbered RN license that is current, from anywhere in the U.S., plus a U.S. nurse practitioner license for post-MSN entry, so an Indiana license can meet the wording. An Indiana multistate license also carries into Louisiana through the compact, which helps if any of your work happens there.
What does reduced practice mean for an Indiana NP?
In AANP's terms, Indiana law keeps at least one element of NP practice bound to a physician by a regulated collaborative agreement. It shapes daily practice in Indiana but does not bar you from UL Lafayette's DNP, whose residency follows your specialty wherever UL Lafayette approves it, at home or in Louisiana.
