UL Lafayette nursing programs for Georgia residents
Georgia is one of eight states whose residents UL Lafayette takes into its online MSN in Nursing Education, and Georgia nurse practitioners can apply to the post-MSN DNP. The FNP, PMHNP and PMHNP certificate keep every clinical hour in Louisiana, and Georgia is not among the states they accept.

Nursing Education from Atlanta, Savannah or Augusta
The Nursing Education concentration is online, 40 to 43 credits across four semesters. Its precepted work sits in NURS 544 Advanced Clinical Practicum (at least 60 hours) and NURS 557 Nursing Education Practicum (at least 180 hours in class, lab and clinical settings). The 2026-27 catalog totals 240; an older web page says 300, so treat the catalog as the first word.
Location is the open question for a Georgian. The MSN program page puts every MSN concentration's clinical work in Louisiana, while the How to Apply page ties that rule to the FNP alone. Georgia's board, the compact and NP practice
Georgia's Secretary of State oversees the Board of Nursing, which licenses the state's RNs and APRNs. Compact membership took effect in January 2018, so a Georgia multistate RN license reaches Louisiana; the APRN Compact has not passed. AANP rates Georgia's NP environment as restricted: physician delegation or supervision, plus limits on Schedule II prescribing.
Out-of-state MSN and NP programs file nothing with the Georgia board before clinicals there, since it neither approves nor oversees education after licensure. The license is the control point. A Georgian logging clinical time at home for a program based elsewhere needs Georgia licensure, either a Georgia-issued license or multistate privileges from a fellow compact state; preceptors and faculty teaching in Georgia face the same check; and APRN-program clinical teachers hold Georgia APRN authorization.
Georgia's preceptor tax credit, PTIP, reworked by House Bill 144 with yearly registration from 2026, rewards only preceptors of students in Georgia-based programs, so a UL Lafayette student's preceptor sits outside it. Piedmont, Wellstar, Emory Healthcare, Northside and Grady serve metro Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta and Columbus; they illustrate the landscape and are not sites linked to UL Lafayette.
The DNP for Georgia nurse practitioners
UL Lafayette's post-MSN DNP is 39 credits with a Fall cohort, and its 420 residency hours in NURS 821, NURS 822 and NURS 823 may take place in Louisiana or in your home state, inside your specialty area. You come to the Lafayette campus twice: for the DNP Orientation Intensive at the start and to present your Synthesis Project at the end. The DNP guide and residency guide have the detail.
Georgia's APRN clinical-teaching rule targets programs that prepare APRNs, and its reach to a post-MSN residency is not spelled out. Ask the DNP Coordinator and the Georgia Board before settling on a Georgia site and mentor.

Can I take UL Lafayette's online FNP while living in Georgia?
Not at present. UL Lafayette places Georgia among the states it is not accepting for the FNP, PMHNP and PMHNP certificate, because it has made no determination about Georgia's educational requirements. Those tracks also keep every rotation in Louisiana and call for a Louisiana RN license. Nurses planning a move should read the Louisiana guide first.
Will my Georgia multistate RN license satisfy UL Lafayette?
It depends on the program and the page. The catalog takes a Louisiana or multistate RN license for the MSN, while the online MSN page wants multistate holders to show Louisiana residency. For the DNP you need a clean RN license from a U.S. state plus, after the MSN, a U.S. nurse practitioner license. Confirm your own case before applying.
Could my preceptor claim Georgia's preceptor tax credit?
Not under the program's own terms. Georgia's Preceptor Tax Incentive Program covers preceptors who teach students enrolled in Georgia medical, dental, nurse practitioner or physician assistant programs. A UL Lafayette student comes from a Louisiana program, so the credit would not apply.
Does Georgia need to approve UL Lafayette before a clinical there?
Georgia's board has no approval step for another state's post-licensure programs, so there is nothing to file with it. Its rules land on licenses instead, for students, preceptors and faculty working in Georgia. Whether UL Lafayette permits Georgia clinical hours for your program is a separate question for the school.
