How UL Lafayette treats a Missouri application
A Missouri resident is eligible to seek UL Lafayette's post-MSN DNP and to complete its residency in Missouri. The three NP-track programs (FNP, PMHNP and the PMHNP certificate) do not admit Missourians, because each logs every clinical hour in Louisiana, and the Nursing Education MSN does not list Missouri.

Missouri's rules say little about schools from elsewhere
As far as research could tell, Missouri asks nothing, neither approval nor notice, of an outside school whose students train in Missouri clinics. The rules in 20 CSR 2200-2 concern programs under the board's own approval, with "approved" meaning recognized by the board.
Then there is Missouri's student exemption, RSMo 335.081(6)(a). It lets a student practice nursing under supervision, without a Missouri license, while enrolled at an approved professional or practical nursing school, and it is silent on schools based elsewhere. A post-MSN DNP resident already holds an NP license, so the gap may not matter, but nobody asked the board, and whether UL Lafayette shows up on a Missouri list went unchecked. Before a site is chosen, check with the DNP Coordinator and the board.
Collaborative practice, compact licensing and a credit that skips NPs
Missouri's RNs and APRNs are licensed by its State Board of Nursing. RSMo 335.360 opens the compact statute; Missouri's version took effect on July 20, 2017, with multistate licenses in use from January 19, 2018. Anyone unsure which state counts as home can follow the board's RN licensure links to the compact's residency and uniform-requirement rules. The APRN Compact has no Missouri enactment.
Practice is restricted by AANP's measure. A collaborative practice arrangement with a physician follows a Missouri NP through a whole career, bringing ratio caps, chart review and limits on controlled substances.
A Missouri preceptor tax credit exists, the Community-Based Faculty Preceptor Tax Credit in RSMo 135.690, but it is for physicians and PAs precepting Missouri's medical and PA students. NPs are not eligible and nursing students do not count, so a UL Lafayette residency never touches it.
Fitting UL Lafayette's residency into Missouri practice
UL Lafayette's doctorate starts from a finished MSN: 39 online credits, one cohort each Fall, applications by May 1. Clinical work comes as a residency whose three courses carry 120, 180 and 120 hours, carried out in your specialty area of practice and, by UL Lafayette's wording, in Louisiana or your home state. The project committee also seats an approved mentor from your host agency. On-campus time is limited to two occasions: the DNP Orientation Intensive and your closing Synthesis Project presentation.
Missouri's population concentrates around St. Louis, whose metro reaches into Illinois, and Kansas City, which straddles the Kansas line, with Springfield and Columbia well behind. BJC HealthCare, SSM Health, Mercy, CoxHealth and University of Missouri Health Care are large systems there, mentioned only to describe the landscape, never as sites that host UL Lafayette students. Is the FNP an option for a Missouri RN?
Not as a Missouri resident. Missouri is excluded from the FNP, PMHNP and PMHNP certificate for now, since UL Lafayette has made no determination about Missouri's educational requirements. Clinicals for those tracks happen in Louisiana, with a Louisiana RN license required, as the Louisiana-only clinicals page explains.
Does Missouri require UL Lafayette to register before my residency?
Nothing research found in Missouri's board rules or guidance requires an outside school to seek approval or give advance notice. The student exemption in RSMo 335.081 mentions approved schools and leaves outside programs unaddressed, and nobody put the question to the board. The DNP Coordinator and the Missouri State Board of Nursing can confirm.
Does Missouri's preceptor tax credit reach NP preceptors?
It does not. Missouri built the credit for physicians and physician assistants who precept the state's medical and PA students. An NP preceptor cannot claim it, and a nursing student's rotation does not qualify, meaning neither your mentor nor your residency brings it into play.
Where can a Missouri resident complete the 420 residency hours?
In Missouri or in Louisiana. UL Lafayette's wording lets DNP hours happen in the student's home state or in Louisiana, within the student's specialty area of practice. Either way, UL Lafayette approves the agency mentor who joins your Synthesis Project committee.
